Angel's Boxing Club encourages its young male and female athletes to take these words of inspiration, and not only use them in the sport, but in life as well. It serves as an alternative to life on the streets, giving aspiring athletes a second home and the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. It also instills the importance of education in the minds of these children. In addition, boxing offers health and exercise, creates strong values, and promotes discipline. The beginning of this successful organization dates back to 1975, when Head Trainer, Jose "Joe" Angel Lopez decided to use his spare time training potential boxers. Angel's Boxing Club started as an open boxing ring in the backyard of the Head Trainer's residence. The location has stayed the same, but the ring has grown into an actual boxing gym. Throughout the years, he has helped create victorious boxers and all types of champions, including San Antonio's First World Champion, Robert "Pikin" Quiroga. He has also inspired other adults to donate their time and assistance in the training of the athletes. This demonstrates that the children that are a part of the organization are cared for and very important to the community. MONDAY 5:30pm to 8:00 pm DIRECTIONS: |
