HOW TO FIND A GOOD BOXING TRAINER

This page is dedicated to helping you find a good boxing trainer. Articles and comments.

After you finish your first lesson, you will feel like a world champion. The first time you walk in a boxing gym, it is normal to feel nervous, but then you walk out feeling indestructible.

A personal trainer should be certified by a nationally recognized certifying organization.

Be sure that the trainer has liability insurance and provides business policies in writing. This said and done, lets get down to details.

The best trainer I ever had wasn't certified and didn't have insurance. He didn't know much about nutrition facts, didn't know business, but he knew how to work the pads and teach boxing skills, made you feel like a world champion, everybody liked him.

The most important thing required to be a great trainer is the ability to communicate. Sure they have to know their facts and have good techniques, but that doesn't mean anything, if you can't relate to what they're saying.

You have to like your trainer and hold them with great respect. This is hard to explain. If one of my friends told me to get down and do push-ups, forget that, but the trainer tells you the same, you don't even hesitate or question it.

A good trainer will have to motivate you. In boxing there will be times you are pushed past your limits, boxing is the ultimate workout.

Check out your local boxing gym. Watching their trainer's in action can tell you a lot. Do their fighters look sloppy or are you impressed. What references do they have? Any golden gloves champs or pro fighters?

Most sports clubs have trainers on their staff, but are not famous for boxing. Some sports clubs offer boxing classes, but most are just for fitness purposes.

If you just want to box for fitness, a trainer who works with pro fighters probably won't give you the attention as they would to a dedicated boxer. Still could be nice to try their service.

If there are no boxing gyms near you, maybe try advertising locally for good trainer, ask other sports trainers who they know and recommend, just don't give up.

Fighting in the street is easy compared to the ring. Your first couple times in the ring you will be sparring with a trainer. The first thing you will notice is that your opponent isn't standing still, he is ducking, bobbing and weaving, your punches just land into thin air. At this point you start the real training process.

If you have never worked so hard in your life, pushed past all your limits, then you have a good boxing trainer. A trainer will make you do the things you don't want to do.

Cybertraining, reading all the books or watching videos, can't substitute for a good trainer. It's bad habits that will kill you, a trainer picks up on these things and corrects them.

Trainers seem to disagree with each other from proper handwraps to almost every training technique. It would be boring if everybody agreed and all fighters had exact same style. There are several right ways to accomplish the same thing.

A problem with some boxing trainers - They tend to be late and in some cases, totally forget about the appointment. I like to tell people this is because they got hit in the head too many times.

You are allowed to try different trainers.

Does your trainer make you keep your hands up?
