Final (Ninth) Round

 ROUND NINE - Rocky missed hard right. He landed two lefts and another
right. Cockell was down on his haunches. he was up at eight. A hard right and left
sent Don weaving around the ring. Cockell down again and the count is seven.

 Flash: Referee stops the fight. Marciano wins by technical knockout. The
time was 54 seconds of the 9th. Don was down twice in the round, for an eight count
and a count of seven. The second time he just slipped on the canvas from the accumu-
lation of punches.

 ROUND ONE - The 16 1/2 foot ring looked like a postage stamp as the two
men came out of their corners. Cockell came in with left to head which was par-
tially blocked by Rocky. They went to close quarters, pounding each other to body.
Rocky tried left jab but it was short. Rocky's hook bounced off the side of Don's
head. Rocky was fighting in his usual crouch, he got in a good short hook to
the jaw. Rocky got in another left and then his elbow connected with Don's nose.
Don came back with right to ear. Rocky fired right that was high and took left to
chest by Don. Don got in left hook to head as Rocky moved in. They sparred in
center of ring. Don scored with glancing right to ear as Rocky ducked low. Rocky
got in stiff jab and took chopping right to head. Don got in another right just
before bell.

 ROUND TWO - Rocky was short with left jab. Cockell hooked left around
Rocky's neck. Don came in and tied Rocky up. Don got left to body. Rocky came
back with right to head. Rocky crowded but Don pushed him away. They slugged
with Cockell scoring both hands to face. Don out slugged Rocky in that ex-
change. Rocky got in hard right to jaw. Don was wild with right. Rock missed right,
wrapping it around Don's neck. Rocky scored with good jab to nose. Don came in
with right-left combination, but Rocky got inside. Rocky missed two sweeping left
hooks, but scored with short right. Rocky got in left hand to Don's head.

 ROUND THREE - Don dug left to body. Don got in left-right combination but
took hard right from Rocky. Rocky got over hard right to jaw. Rocky was bobbing
and weaving and crowding in. Don missed with left. Rocky was wide with right.
He was short with his jab but chased Cockell. He glanced right to Don's jaw. Don
blocked left hook. they slugged at close quarters. Don got in left hook to ear.
Don ran into two left hooks by Rocky. Don connected with right and left but Rocky
continued to press him. Rocky was off target with right. Rocky scored and shook
up Don with left hook. Rocky was blasting don on ropes at bell.

 ROUND FOUR - Rocky pounded right to body. Don was short with counter
right. Rocky rushed in but missed. Cockell had a cut on his forehead. It was bleed-
ing. Rocky poured in hard left hook. Don came back with left to jaw. Rocky scored
with left hook from short range. the blood was pouring down Don's face. Rocky
forced Don back with two stiff jabs. Don missed left hook. Cockell's corner is hol-
lering about Marciano's butting. They are complaining bitterly. Rocky shook up his
man with left and right to body. Cockell was hurt. Rocky was short with left.
Cockell was having difficulty seeing because of the blood. Rocky pushed Cockell to
ropes just before bell.

 ROUND FIVE - Cockell's cut was on the forehead, an inch below the hair
line. Rocky landed left to face. Cockell moved away behind his left. Rocky missed
right, but dug left to body. Rocky crowded in and landed left to jaw. Marciano was
unmarked, he landed right-left combination to Don's jaw. Cockell's cut was bleeding
again. Rocky banged right to body, and left to stomach. Cockell was hurt by these
blows. Rocky scored with hard left jab to face. rocky was high on right. Don
countered with right to jaw. Rocky shoved Cockell to ropes. Cockell found him-
self on the stands as Rocky crowded him. He caught hard left hook to jaw but
Cockell held on. Rocky had Don on other side of ring at bell.

 ROUND SIX - Marciano rushed out but missed left. Rocky landed hard left to
ear and shook up Don. Don tried to hold. They slugged at short range, both land-
ing to body. Rocky bounced right off Don's jaw. Don's cut was still bleeding. Rocky
feinted a right and connected with left which shook up Cockell. Don came back with
good right to Rocky's jaw. Rocky stayed after him, backed him across the ring,
and landed right-left and another right to Don's jaw. Rocky was wild with right.
Don tried to fire back. Rocky chased him, crowded him. They bumped heads at close
quarters. Rocky came in with left to jaw. Cockell was on ropes. Rocky drove tre-
mendous right to body. He landed right to jaw at bell.

 ROUND SEVEN - Rocky pounded away at body. A right hook shook up
Cockell. he was floundering. He had been sick in his corner between rounds. The
cut on his head was bleeding again. rocky crowded and landed right to jaw. Rocky
pressed in, looking for opening, missed right but landed left uppercut. Don came in,
tied up Rocky. He threw right but was short. Rocky lashed left hook and right to
body. He forced Don to ropes and pounded left to head. he switched his attack to
body. He caught Don with another savage left hook. Don missed right uppercut.
Rocky pitched long range right which connected. he followed it with left hook and
scored with another left hook just before bell.

 ROUND EIGHT - Rocky got in light left to face. Don pushed him away.
Rocky was short with right. He followed through with left hook and staggered Don
with right. Don was in trouble. Rocky landed another right and left hook. Don
was trying to fight back. Rocky hurt him with right-left combination to jaw.
Rocky dug left to body. Rocky had Don on ropes. Don got away. Rocky scored
with two lefts. Rocky landed right. don was staggered. Rocky was pitching with
both hands. Rocky landed another left. Still Don tried to fight back. Rocky landed
right and another flock of lefts, and a hard right. Another right by Rocky and
Don tried to hold. Marciano was hitting him with everything. He again forced Don
to the ropes. A hard right again, buckled Don's knees. He was taking a terrific
beating. Don is through on the ropes. Don was through the ropes half way out on
the apron from a left and right. The referee counted on when the bell sounded.
