SHARKEY DECLARED BETTER
FIGHTER, DESPITE HIS DEFEAT
Low Blow and Other
Scenes in Last Night's Bout

Schmeling vs Sharkey 1930
Down on the floor - but a champion! This
picture shows Schmeling, a hand clutched to his
side, kneeling on the resin-covered canvas after the
fatal blow which Sharkey delivered in the forth
round. Referee Jimmy Crowley is shown bending
over the floored Teuton as the bell rang. Sharkey
is standing in his corner.

Schmeling vs Sharkey 1930
Sharkey forced the fighting in the third round of
their short-lived battle. Note the German battler
at the right, crouching as the Boston Gob sailed in
with a crushing right aimed at the head.

Schmeling vs Sharkey 1930
A slashing left to the body - and it was low - and it was the blow
that cost Jack Sharkey the heavyweight championship of the world!
This unusual picture shows the Boston battler, in the foreground,
boring upward into Max Schmeling with the punch that was adjudged
a foul in the fourth round of their title fight at the Yankee Stadium,
New York.
